Business Council Honors Attorney Rick A. Flugaur

Rick Flugaur received the President's Award from the Portage County Business Council at its annual dinner on January 19th. He was selected by Board President Pam Jewell based on his commitment and spirit of cooperation to the Portage County Business Council. In announcing his selection, Jewell said that "Flugaur's efforts have helped the Business Council and the Business Council Foundation achieve a high decree of success in our community though his compassion to the organization and its mission. When called upon numerous times to serve, Rick has not only answered the call, but brought a unique blend of character, integrity and reason to many issues." Rick is a Board member and Corporate counsel of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Foundation and a Board member and 2010 President of the Portage County Business Council. His community involvement over the years has included Saint Michael's Foundation, where he served on the Board of Directors and as President, United Way of Portage County Board of Directors and President, St. Stephen's Parish Endowment Fund Board of Trustees, Stevens Point Area Catholic Schools Development and Advisory Council member, North Central Chapter of CPAs Board of Directors and President, and the Central Wisconsin Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors and Treasurer. He also serves as a youth baseball and basketball coach. |

Attorneys Gerald O'Brien, Thomas Bertz and Russell Golla have been selected for inclusion on the 2008 Wisconsin Super Lawyers list. Attorneys O'Brien and Golla were also named Wisconsin Super Lawyers in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and Attorney Bertz in 2008.. Wisconsin Super Lawyers is an annual listing of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Only 5% of all active attorneys (both public and private) comprise this prestigious list. Gerald O’Brien, Thomas Bertz and Russell Golla were chosen as candidates by their peers and were selected by Law & Politics as Wisconsin Super Lawyers. Law & Politics is a legal publisher which uses a system of balloting, peer evaluation and internal research to select qualified candidates. More than 11,000 ballots were mailed to Wisconsin lawyers who have been in practice for at least five years. Lawyers were asked to nominate the best attorneys they have personally observed in action. In addition to being named "Wisconsin Super Lawyers," all three attorneys have received an AV Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell. An AV certification mark is a significant rating accomplishment - a testament to the fact that a lawyer's peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence. A lawyer must be admitted to the Bar for 10 years or more to receive an AV rating. The Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings service, which evaluates lawyers and law firms in the United States and Canada, is based on the confidential opinions of members of the Bar and Judiciary, including both those who are rated and those who are not. Mr. O’Brien and Mr. Golla are also Board Certified as Certified Civil Trial Specialists by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Attorneys who are Board Certified have passed rigorous tests and have demonstrated substantial experience in the courts. Attorney Gerald O'Brien Reaches 50 Year Milestone in the Legal Profession

Attorney Gerald O'Brien reached his 50-year milestone in the legal profession and was honored at the annual State Bar convention in Milwaukee. Jerry has also received numerous awards for his activities in the Bar and in the legal profession, as well as several presidential awards for legal excellence. Jerry is an active trial attorney and has tried over 200 civil trials in state and federal courts, including at least a third of the counties in Wisconsin. His trial experience has included insurance defense, plaintiff personal injury, construction law, employment law and business litigation. He has also served in numerous civic matters including appointments by the Governor of Wisconsin to the Wisconsin Public Intervenor Board, and to the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board, where he served as Chair. Locally he has served on numerous boards and organizations. |
Attorney Ron Skrenes Named One of America's Top Financial Planners in 2009

For the second year in a row, Consumers' Research Council of America announced that Ron Skrenes has been included in the Guide to America's Top Financial Planners. Consumers' Research Council of America, a Washington, D.C. based research organization, provides consumers' information guides for professional services throughout America. Based upon Ron's experience and qualifications, he is ranked in the top 8/% of all financial planners. While Ron does not provide investment advice, he uses his knowledge of financial strategies in providing estate planning and business legal services. As an attorney and Certified Public Accountant, he understands the complexities and the tax ramifications of business transactions. His business law services include general business law, taxation, and mergers and acquisitions. Ron is one of only five attorneys in Wisconsin who have achieved the Estate Planning Law Specialist designation. He is the only attorney in Wisconsin who simultaneously holds designations/certifications as an (1) attorney, (2) Certified Public Accountant, (3) Accredited Estate Planner, (4) Certified Financial Planner and (5) Estate Planning Law Specialist.

Decree of Excellence Awarded to Anderson, O'Brien, Bertz, Skrenes & Golla
The Decree of Excellence Award was presented to Anderson, O'Brien, Bertz, Skrenes & Golla at the Portage County Business Council's Annual Dinner. Award criteria includes making capital improvements, significant growth and development, increasing employment base, planning and implementing special marketing campaigns and making significant community service contributions. Anderson, O'Brien, Bertz, Skrenes & Golla is a full-service law firm founded in 1886 by Attorneys Byron B. Park and Gilbert L. Park. Byron Park was appointed a member of the Wisconsin Board of Regents of Normal Schools. He served from 1891-1894. His service would lead to Park's most lasting legacy - the establishment of a normal school in Stevens Point. The school is now known as the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Today, our firm includes a team of 15 respected attorneys who are dedicated to their areas of law and the communities in which they live. Our team of attorneys actively volunteers with more than 45 area organizations. Our firm has also actively supported the Portage County Business Council for the past 30 years.
